If your KitchenAid dishwasher is not taking commands and / or not functioning like it should the problem source is very lkely either the  Touchpad / Control Panel 8531243 or the Main Control Board 8564543 . However it is hard to know which component -- the touchpad or the main control board (also known as a pcb or printed circut board) , replacing both eliminates the guesswork , both these parts are not new or  used condition , both have been fully tested and come with a one year full warrantty
