I installed the touchpad (membrane) and I got all the lights and controls back, but apparently there was another problem. Perhaps what I would call a "module" would not cycle from one stage to the next, so the dishwasher would not drain unless I held down the drain button. In the end, we bought a brand new dishwasher.
